Products: Florasica™

Florasica™ is a patent-pending eco-friendly super-absorbent, formulated specifically for use in the global disposable diaper and related absorbent hygiene industries. Over 99.9% of the 100+ billion disposable diapers consumed annually around the globe use purely petroleum-derived super-absorbents (SAPs). Currently Florasica™ is the only super-absorbent on the market which can replace incumbent SAPs without sacrificing performance.

Natural ingredients account for greater than 50% of Florasica™. Replacing SAP with Florasica™ has potential to reduce the total petroleum going into a typical disposable diaper pad by 20-25%. In addition, the plant components of Florasica™ gradually degrade into simple sugar molecules over several months after hydration. These sugar molecules provide a favorable micro-environment for promoting the degradation of other biodegradable diaper components, such as wood pulp and bioplastics. Given the price differential between nonwovens used in a diaper chassis and the SAP, investing in an absorbent such as Florasica™ has a higher environmental impact than that of degradable nonwovens on a per dollar basis.

Independent testing of Florasica™ by some of the world’s largest diaper producers indicates that Florasica™:

• Has absorptive capacity (free swell) on par with traditional SAPs.
• Achieves near parity or even superior absorbency under load (AUL) compared to SAPs.
• Absorbs saline liquid faster than traditional SAPs.

Florasica™ provides meaningful environmental benefits which are increasingly important to the rapidly growing retailer and consumer segments of the market that are sensitive to environmental and health considerations.
